September Movie Night – The works of Moira Simpson

September 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT
Free

Join us for a kickoff of the 2017-2018 Movie Night season with as we present the works of director, cinematographer, and editor Moira Simpson.

“Moira ‘Mo’ Simpson has made a significant contribution to social activism, film culture, and documentary practice in Vancouver as a director, film editor, and — a role still all-too-rare for women — cinematographer. She has throughout her career demonstrated a commitment to using film as an instrument for social change.”

The Cinematheque

Mo presents three short documentary and experimental films she has worked on as director/cinematographer/editor of Falling from the Sky and So Kat’ta and cinematographer/editor of The Thinking Garden.

The films explore memories of being stranded in Japan during WWII and the joy and devastation of human existence – both through dance journeys – as well as an inspiring story of South African women sowing the seeds of change. Our sincere gratitude to Mo Simpson and Moving Images Distribution.

The Movie Night series is free of charge for women only. Donations are accepted and kindly appreciated. Food and drink refreshments will be provided, and the screenings will conclude with an open group discussion.
